פרשת פינחס
The פסוק says “פינכס בן אלעזר בן אהרון הכהן, turned back my wrath from upon בני ישראל, when he zealously avenged Me among them” רשי says that the word – קנאתי- my vengeance is translated as so because it was through jealousy that results in vengeance. What was ה' jealous about??
“Jealousy is a person’s reaction when he find that another is taking something that is rightfully his.” ה' gets jealous when Jews do עבודה זרה, because בני ישראל allegiance is rightfully ה', and now that they transferred their allegiance to something else ה' gets jealous and upset. חזל teach us that the act of עבודה זרה is the ultimate lack of אמונה. This act shows that one has no faith that ה' will provide him with what he needs, rather he relies upon the vanity and emptiness of a god that offers no help. Therefore when פינכס arose in front of the whole nation to stop the low act of serving the בעל פעור it was the ultimate act of אמונה.
שבע עשר בתמוז begins a 3 week period where we mourn over the loss of the בית המקדש. This period of time is call בין המצרים- “between the paths". 3 weeks entails 21 days and in פרשת פינחס the תורה speaks about the קרבנות for שבת,ראש חודש , פסח, שבועת, ראש השנה, יום כיפור, סוכות, שמיני עצרת. פרשת פינחס always falls out almost every year during בין המצרים. Why?
The אוהב ישראל says that If you count up all the days of the קרבנות listed about you’ll get to 21 days. 1 day of שבת, 1 day of ראש חודש, 7 days of פסח, 1 day of שבעות, 2 days of ראש השנה, 1 day of יום כיפור, 7 days of סוכות and 1 day of שמיני עצרת. The reason that these קרבנות are listed in פרשת פינחס, near the time of the 3 weeks, is to teach us that the time of the 3 weeks shouldn’t only be a time of mourning, destruction and self reflection of where we're headed in עבודת ה, but it can also be a special time of incredible spiritual growth. We can use each day of the 3 weeks and tap into all the קדושה that we are able to attain on שבת and יום טוב. We can work on all the different מידות that are applicable to שבת and to each יום טוב that we use to find ה' during this time. All the כחות-powers, that each יום טוב has can be tapped into in a hidden way in these days. For example, on סוכות it’s a זמן שמחתנו, so on סוכות we try to work on beingבשמחה. Sure the date of סוכות is טו תשרי but in a hidden way all the מצוות of the יום טוב and all the כחות can be found during the 3 weeks.
During פסח its אמונה, the more אמונה we have on the night of the סדר the more we’ll have the whole year. Following the sequence of theפסוקים in the פרשה, this שבת and upcoming week is “פסח”. That means in a hidden way, all the כחות and all the spiritual charges that we can attain during the זמן of פסח in the middle of ניסן can be found and this שבת and upcoming week.
We should all be strong in working on and growing in our אמונת ה'. We shouldn't be scared to exhibit our אמונה like פינכס, even when people seem to be telling you otherwise. אמונה will always help us find ה' during all situations in our lifetimes. Whether it be good times when its easy to find ה' or when is hard and tough times like the 3 weeks, ה' is always there waiting for us.
